Because I must watch movies and TV shows in small amounts of time, then quickly delete them afterward, I have resorted to using the SHREDDAGE extension for my browser that will automatically delete stuff when you are done with it. Not all your data is gone though, other users can still view the files that are being shared via torrents. This means that if you accidentally share something you want to keep hidden online, SHREDDAGE runs the risk of someone finding out where it’s located. SHREDDAGE is not the only service that can do this. There are others out there who are similar, however, their methods of wiping data off your hard drive are more dangerous than this one. Wiping files via the shred command is very effective, but it takes up a lot of time due to its overwriting capabilities (repeatedly overwriting files with zeroes). While overwriting data with zeros is the quickest way to wipe it off your hard drive, it does affect performance because of how many times it has to write over the bits and bytes of info that make up your data. By overwriting data with zeros, the chance of it becoming recoverable increases. While overwriting your data with random bits and bytes does not increase the amount of bit errors that can be recovered, using the shred command has other negative side effects. With each pass that is made over your disk, more bits are changed however exponentially fewer errors occur. This makes it harder to recover data. After you put your disc in, it could be months before it gets to you depending on where you live. To help prevent data from being recovered, SHREDDAGE does not overwrite or erase any files. In fact, it does not touch your disc at all. Since the only thing it does is run through a function called "volume", everything that was on your disc remains on your disc. This means that if someone wanted to recover the data from your drive, they would have to have access to your drive at the moment you deleted it and take a look around for anything interesting. "Keep a flashlight near your computer!" While no one can recover your data from a disc that is being used in a drive, it only takes one mistake to have your data compromised. SHREDDAGE helps to prevent this from happening. This is because SHREDDAGE will not erase or overwrite anything on the disc that is being used by the device until the user moves it away. This means that if someone comes up and takes a look around, they will find nothing but random bits and bytes which do not include any information about what’s on your disc. eccc085e13
